The Body Mass Index gives allowance that we are all different shapes and sizes. For this reason, BMI are scored in ranges, which is directly related to your weight and height.
If your score is above the normal range, this means you are overweight for somebody of your height. The scores below relate to adult women.

BMI below 18.5:
this score means that you may be underweight. There may be medical contributing factors to this and it is recommended you discuss the issue with your GP.

BMI between 18.5-24.9:
this score indicates that you are at a good weight for your size. It is essential to maintain a balanced diet and take regular exercise so as to remain within this range.

BMI score of 25 or higher:
A score between 25 and 29.9 shows that you are overweight for your size. Being overweight can increase the risk of diabetes and heart disease. You should take action as a matter of urgency.

BMI above 30:
having a BMI above 30 means you are classed as obese. You will have a raised risk of health problems such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes in the future. Losing weight is essential if you are to avoid significant health improvements. Consult your GP for guidance.
